(July 8) -- New-home owners who spend $20 for a fast-growing tree sapling could see a sizable return on their investment when they put the property on the market, home specialists say.
Besides providing shade, trees can boost a property's resale value, research shows, which would explain why builders charge extra for wooded home lots.

Home sites with plenty of mature trees are the most desired amenity requested by new-home buyers, and lots without them trigger frequent complaints from home shoppers.
Although having them can appreciate the value of a residence by as much as 15 percent, the increase will vary based on size, species, condition, and location of the trees.
